South Korean national flag known as tai chi flag (Korean: 태 극 기; Taegeukgi), rectangular in shape, with a ratio of 3:2. The implied meaning of the south Korean flag reflects China's "zhouyi" thought, the central tai chi symbol of the universe, blue for Yin, red for Yang. Four corners of the gua in the upper left is dry, right lower for kun, right for kan, left lower for li, respectively represent heaven, earth, water and fire. The national flag is white, symbolizing the purity and love of peace of the Korean people. [1]

In the late 19th century, the joseon dynasty realized the importance of the flag because of the Japanese stimulation. Huang zunxian, a Chinese diplomat from the qing dynasty, suggested that north Korea adopt the dragon flag, but it was not adopted. Before the signing of the treaty of mending trade and trade between the DPRK and the United States in 1882, the DPRK designed a taiji flag with no hexagons, which was prompted by Chinese diplomat ma jianzhong to join the eight diagrams. In the same year, the Korean minister park yongxiao, who was on a mission to Japan, decided to remove the four hexagons after consultation with the British captain, and was selected as the national flag by the Korean emperor gaozong in 1883.
